Dialogue and Collaboration with Stakeholders

  • Archive

As a country, we started the year 2023 with macro-economic fragility caused by a slowing growth rate and high inflation on top of the negative global economic and geopolitical developments. The export is expected to slow down in the first half of the year, but in the second half, our economy will continue to grow with the expected recovery of the global economy and the domestic demand. Even if it gets better than 2022, we will still be talking about the high inflation and current deficit.

Another important agenda we will be talking about this year will be “access to funding” for our industrialists in such a period when the global funding resources will continue to remain limited.

We are in a time of uncertainties that we are having difficulties in making projections due to the global economic and geopolitical developments. And in such an environment, we are always addressing important problems of our industrial sector with our stakeholders with dialogue, collaboration and solidarity.

This is why we invited Mr. Alparslan Çakar, the President of The Banks Association of Türkiye (TBB), to our ordinary Assembly meeting in January as you will read in the following pages. Our ICI Assembly members had very useful discussions with Mr. Çakar about access to funding, which is the most important problem of our industry in recent years. The President of TBB also shared very important and valuable information with his presentation and the replies he gave to our members’ questions.

We had other guests joining our meeting and contributing with their brief evaluations about the issue. Those are Vakıfbank’s General Manager Mr. Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih, Halk Bank’s General Manager Mr. Osman Arslan, Eximbank’s General Manager Mr. Ali Güney, Türkiye Kalkınma ve Yatırım Bank’s General Manager Mr. İbrahim Halil Öztop. I would like to thank again to both Mr. Çakar and the General Managers of our precious banks for their valuable contributions to our Assembly meeting and for the very useful discussions we had with them.

There are two topics in this issue of our magazine which I believe would attract your attention. One of them is the foreign trade carnet we issued for all our 81 cities. In this file, you can find out the import and export figures of our cities, which cities gave foreign trade deficit or which cities gave surplus as of 2022.

Again the expectations for the world’s economy is another important research topic for us. I hope you will be interested in reading the global economy projections of 4,410 CEOs from 105 countries and regions, and 87 CEOs from Türkiye.

I wish you all a very healthy and peaceful month.
