New Economy Understanding, Environment and Energy...

We are faced with a new economy understanding in the world. When it comes to economy in today’s world, production-consumption, money-interest and money policies of Central Banks are not discussed in a narrow concept. Instead, we see that a more comprehensive perspective is used to comprehend the economy. Firstly, the ecology and environment is seen through this perspective. Issues such as income distribution, welfare, happiness, population and migration are much more discussed now.

We should see that the awareness in climate change, environment and sustainability issues should have increased considerably especially for today’s youth. Because our world is struggling with disasters increasing this awareness in each day. We hear about environmental disasters from all over the world at all times. Australia which is as big as the Europe has been burning for months. In addition to this disaster in which millions of creatures turned into ash, many similar environmental disasters from floods to droughts will determine the priorities of our future lives and economies. Therefore, the most important point which we should comprehend today is the “sharing economy” which symbolizes the stance of youth against such problems.

As Istanbul Chamber of Industry, we adopt to create awareness in such issues as one of our most important establishment philosophies. Breaking a ground in Türkiye in 1990 as a Chamber and establishing the Environmental Branch is the outcome of this understanding. And, that we have been giving environmental awards to further improve our industrial organizations' relations with the environment for 17 years. We have been continuing this tradition with the name of Energy Efficiency Awards for two years. The awards of this year that were determined by a very active jury on energy found their owners on January 17th.

With this event on which you can read the details on the following pages, we awarded the works of rooted industrial organizations of Türkiye in energy efficient products and energy efficiency. In the special category, the works of institutions and organizations such as technology companies, universities, municipalities and primary schools were assessed and awarded. I would like to congratulate all awarded organizations once again and I would like to thank them for their sensitivity and awareness for the environment.

While negotiating the plan and budget for the overall year in the last Assembly meeting like we do all the time, we discussed the agenda and possible expectations of the world and Turkish economy together with the journalists and economists. The panel which you can read about on the following pages were highly efficient and interactive with the participation of Assembly members.

In this issue, we wanted to draw your attention to the century-old Darülaceze, one of our charities. We visited Darülaceze “which is the home for ophanages” together with our Board of Members the last month and listened the presentation of Mr. Hamza Cebeci, the President of Darülaceze. We wanted to share today’s vision and mission of this century-old charity organization with you, our industrialists and included this interview that you will pay great interest in this issue. I would like to express that: We should remember that the charities like Darülaceze needs our material and non-material support to take a new step for the new centuries...
