After the elections of the new cabinet, the new management of the Central Bank started to work. Apparently, a very busy schedule awaits the new economy management. Very critical decisions and practices for our industry will be implemented, too. At the beginning of such a critical period, our Istanbul Chamber of Commerce’s Board visited the new cabinet members in Ankara last month to congratulate them.
We discussed the key issues of our industry with three ministers, primarily with the Vice President Mr. Cevdet Yılmaz. We visited the Minister of Interior Mr. Ali Yerlikaya, the Minister of Industry and Technology Mr. Mehmet Fatih Kacır and the Minister of Commerce Mr. Ömer Bolat. During the visit we both expressed our good wishes for their new duties and discussed some of the key issues of our industry and the economy.
We conveyed our suggestions to the Vice President Mr. Yılmaz about establishing a system that would show past performances of companies in every aspect and using it as a key reference for additional benefits for the companies, including incentives, tax reliefs, visa, funding, etc. We will also present him a report in the near future about our structural reform suggestions, including more efficient use of our country’s resources, investment financing in the industry, sustainability, working life, university & industry collaboration, tax, education, the industry’s placement and other issues.
We also shared our opinions and recommendations about inflation, price increases, the industry’s financing, sustainability, the industry’s access to foreign markets, the European Union. Some other topics we discussed and evaluated with the ministers included the importance of public purchases which is critical for the development of domestic production and technologies, qualified and high added value production based on advanced technology - one of the key issues of our industry -, the industry’s sustainability in every aspect, the technology need analysis of industrial sectors, techno-parks and establishment of new organized industrial zones.
I would like to thank again our Vice President Mr. Yılmaz and the Ministers for their kind invitation and hospitality.
As I said earlier, the new cabinet will have a busy economic schedule ahead of them. No doubt that the most important topic of this new period will be Mid-term Program (MTP). The studies for this program were initiated by our Vice President Mr. Yılmaz. He is discussing these issues with all the stakeholders from business life to academic life, to banking, to employers and workers in order to establish the infrastructure of the MTP. Under this scope, a meeting was organized for the business circles of Istanbul, which I also attended and had the opportunity to share the key problems of our industry. I believe it was a very fruitful meeting. I would like to say that after the discussions to be made with other parties, we expect an MTP with a beneficial vision and practices for our country will be developed in shortest time.
Last month, we also hosted Mr. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), our parent organization, at our Assembly. The meeting was held with the topic of “The Role and Importance of TOBB in the Solution of the Problems of our Industry and Production Life and Our Expectations”. You can read the details of this meeting in the following pages. Mr. Hisarcıklıoğlu, as someone who is very experienced and well aware of the situation of our business life, the bureaucracy in Ankara and the operation mechanisms of the State, shared his evaluations and very important information with our Assembly members and answered their questions.
Hoping that the next days will bring prosperity to our country and economy, I wish you all a good month.
