The Happiness of Completing a Term of Duty…

Our term of duty covering the 2018-2022 period is ending this month. As previously announced by our Chamber and written in this column last month, we are going to elect the governing bodies for the new term this month. After the elections for Professional Committees and Assembly Members to be held at Haliç Congress Center on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, we will complete the process with the elections of the Assembly’s Presidential Council, Board of Directors, Disciplinary Board and TOBB (Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges) Delegates on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Elections for the Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons of the Professional Committees will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, in Odakule. I wish these elections be beneficial for our community.
Taking into account the election calendar of our Chamber, we saved our last Assembly meeting before the Chamber elections for a general assessment of our term of duty, which is about to be completed. You can find the activities we performed during our term in our Annual Report prepared for the period of 2018- 2022 in detail. I also touched upon this issue at our October assembly meeting. You can read a brief summary of this meeting on the following pages.
I would like to express my feelings about our term of duty. During our term from 2018 to 2022, we have had the honor, happiness and responsibility of managing the Istanbul Chamber of Industry, the long-established and largest chamber of industry of Türkiye with due care. While this happiness felt in our hearts gives us a never-ending enthusiasm and determination to work, we have always felt the valuable support of our industrialists, which also adds to our strength, and their positive approach that motivates us. On this occasion, on behalf of myself and our board of directors, I would like to thank and express my gratitude to all our Professional Committee Members and industrialists, especially our Assembly Members, for believing in us in the first place.
As I mentioned above, we have achieved a lot of work during our term. Above all, I am extremely happy to close this period by opening our Istanbul Chamber of Industry Industrial Design and Prototyping Center (ISO ETP). We opened the ISO ETP last month with our Minister of Industry and Technology, Mr. Mustafa Varank. As you can read the details on the following pages, it will provide an integrated service to our companies with advanced prototyping equipment, user experience and virtual reality laboratories and design consultancy while offering university and industry cooperation at the same time. It will also contribute to the development of the ecosystem.
One of the important topics you can read in this issue of our magazine is the ICI Sustainability Report. This report is released for the first time among the chambers of industry in Türkiye. It covers our major and most significant activities and studies performed in recent years, and will serve as a guide on sustainability for our industrialists.
The Republic Day, which will be celebrated in the last days of the last month, is an example of loyalty and gratitude to those who gave us our independence on these lands. We are celebrating 99th Anniversary of our Republic, and stepping into its second century, leaving a century behind. Our Republic is appreciated deeply by our nation, and embraces everyone. I wish it develops and becomes stronger together with our democracy. Using this opportunity, I respectfully commemorate our founding leader Atatürk.
