China's Consul General in Istanbul, Wei Xiaodong, visited Erdal Bahçıvan, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ICI), on July 18, 2024. During the visit at ICI’s headquarters in Odakule, Consul Liu Jingling and Commercial Consul Fanwei Meng also accompanied him. The discussions focused on mutual actions to enhance institutional relations.

During the visit, it was emphasized that significant and rapidly developing momentum has been achieved in economic relations between Turkey and China in recent years, with a focus on new cooperation and investment opportunities. The conversation also touched on Chinese investments in Turkey, highlighting the substantial increase in trade volume between the two countries in recent years. The recent announcement of a $1 billion investment by China in electric vehicle production in Turkey was discussed, with an emphasis on the expectation of similar investments in the future if mutual investment and trade relations are facilitated.

It was agreed that the capabilities and talents of Istanbul Chamber of Industry members in the invested areas would enable new collaborations, and thematic meetings were planned. The visit highlighted that economic relations between Turkey and China are progressing across a broad spectrum, with a focus on projects that can be jointly undertaken to further these relations in line with the mutual interests of both countries. In this context, it was agreed to implement a "country day" program that will cover a wide range of topics benefiting member companies, from business culture in China to payment systems.
